Safety

Thompson, Manitoba is a safe, family-friendly town.
There are no street gangs, and organized crime is nearly nonexistant.
All crimes, particularly murders, are solved quickly and thoroughly by the local police force.
It's completely safe to walk Thompson's streets at night.

I'm Roy Barley.

RCMP Station

If you misbehave in Thompson, or have too much fun, you might be invited to spend the night in the city lock-up.
According to jailer Simon Birch*, no detainee has ever been sodomized by unruly cellmates or brutally beaten by enraged police officers.
"That just doesn't happen here," says Simon. "It's very peaceful, and our lodgers have a good rapport with the cops. If you want violence, I suppose you'd have to look in Brandon or Gimli. Thompson is a peaceful town."

* Simon Birch is a pseudonym.

Other Attractions

The Silver Leaf Hotel & Bar is just one hour south of Thompson, in the quaint little burgh of Wabowden. Stop in for some friendly chat and a nice house wine.

Blustery Day

These highly skilled workers-- geologists, engineers and doctors-- are ducking for cover as winter blows one last kiss. Thompson is home to so many important people that someone once called it "The Vienna of the New World."

What Thompson is North of...

Recycling

A lot of people don't know that Thompson practically invented recycling back in the eighties, making it the cleanest little city in western Canada.

Wolves

One thing you'll notice about Thompson is the proponderance of wolf statues, each painted by local Special Needs Children.
The idea of cluttering towns with gaudy plaster tchotchkes originated in the nineties.
Provo, Utah, is littered with deer.
Peden, Alabama, has partridges.
Thompson has wolves, not unlike seven other Canadian towns.

Strong People

Thompsonites are resilient, possibly the toughest people on the planet.
This proud fellow was very tired after a 12-hour shift at the Vale-Inco mine and decided to sleep on the concrete.

The Turbulence of Love

Thompson, Manitoba can be as amorous as Paris, France.
But amour can be a rollercoaster-ride of responsibilities and raging hormones.
After a loving evening spent in the TD Bank alcove, this couple argues playfully about finances. A few shoves and friendly slaps later, and they are back in each other's loving arms.

Friendship

The bonds of Friendship and Trust hold Thompsonites together.
If you need a couple dollars for schooling or employment training, there's always someone nearby to help you out.

In Memory of...

Thompson is the home of Brotherly (and Sisterly) Love.
This poor woman was viciously murdered in the Safeway parking lot, so sympathetic citizens turned a plain yellow guardpost into a handsome reminder of the fragility of life.

Big Thaw

Springtime in Thompson requires a lot of clean-up, and everyone gets in on the action. People like to keep their town pristine.
